Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987–1994)

Stargate SG-1 (1997–2007)

Stargate SG-1 expanded the 1994 film into one of the longest-running sci-fi series in American television history — 10 seasons and 214 episodes. It built a sprawling mythology around ancient alien civilizations and interstellar travel while never losing the team-based, mission-of-the-week structure that made it easy to jump into at any point.

The X-Files (1993–2018)

The X-Files blended science fiction with horror and conspiracy thriller elements, following FBI agents Mulder and Scully as they investigated the unexplained. Its blend of case-of-the-week episodes and a slow-burn mythology arc across 11 seasons and 218 episodes influenced nearly every serialized genre show that came after it.
